CERTIFICATE in AI FROM NTL & CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY
Description: Announcing a major new program for those who want to learn the Appreciative Inquiry approach to management and organization development. Become part of this outstanding new Appreciative Inquiry Certificate Program offered by NTL Institute of Applied Behavioral Sciences and Case Western Reserve University.
Founded in 1947,NTL is the organization that pioneered the field of applied behavioral science in groups and human systems, and led to the creation of Organization Development as a discipline and profession. NTL provided the original venue for training organizational leaders and OD practitioners.
In 1960, a group of NTL's founders, under the leadership of Herb Shepherd, worked with Case Western Reserve University to establish the first PhD program in Organization Behavior. That program remains today the premier Doctoral program in organization change. Among the outstanding graduates of that program is Dr. David Cooperrider, whose Doctoral Dissertation created the Appreciative Inquiry approach to Organization Development. David, who is a Professor on the faculty at Case's Weatherhead School, is also a member of NTL and is one of the originators of this AI Certificate Program.
Building on his AI work at Case since the mid-1980's, David along with Jane Magruder Watkins, John Carter and Cathy Royal formally introduced Appreciative Inquiry to NTL members in 1982. Jane Watkins & Cathy Royal created and began to offer (with Barbara Sloan and Bernard Mohr) an NTL course of AI for OD practitioners and organization leaders. The Weatherhead School at Case has incorporated AI into all of the degree programs in their schools of management and organization behavior. Now these two leaders in the field - NTL and CASE - are collaborating to offer a certificate program for those who want to become highly competent AI master practitioners.
The AI Track can be found on the website: www.NTL.org under "current activities and programs." Click on "Appreciative Inquiry Certificate Program" and see the details of the complete AI Track. The program is designed for a "cohort" group that will be together for 4 required courses and two electives (the number of courses needed to be eligible for the certificate) as well as open to those who want to sign up for only a single course.
As OD programs have proliferated in universities and training venues, NTL and Case remain the premier venues for those who want to become Master Practitioners. The 4 required courses of the Track are designed to ground a practitioner in the theory of groups, the skills to design and deliver experience-based learning (which is key to the practice of OD), the fundamentals of Appreciative Inquiry theory and practice, and a Practicum course that includes skills needed for contracting, entry and design work with an organization - a process that takes place with a real client!
A wide range of application processes will be offered as "electives" such as AI for teambuilding, coaching, strategic planning, leadership development, diversity, evaluation, international development and others as needs are identified.
The full Track can be completed in less than two years, taken in sessions that last from 4 days to a week. Sessions are taught in sequence with electives offered throughout the year so that participants have maximum flexibility.
