Managing the CI Department

Annotation: Competitive intelligence departments can generate information that is more accurate and complete by using a form of research called appreciative inquiry (AI). This is a tool for understanding the company's current state and developing a new corporate vision. It also assists in rapidly developing cultures, norms and behaviors appropriate to the new future. AI was introduced by Cooperrider & Srivastva as a method to change the social system of a company. It involves an exploration of the organization - what it is and what people want it to be. AI then combines that two-fold understanding of what the company might be, with what already exists. The method of Appreciative Inquiry can be broken down into 4 cycles: 1. discover, 2. dream, 3. design, and 4. deliver.
