Capital College and Research Center is fully an AI managed college. It is a private college for grades 11 and 12 and Bachelor in Business studies (BBS). There are over 500 students, 70 faculties and 25 management and support staff. We are a new college established in March 2001. The whole family has undergone AI workshops. It was in May 2001, we conducted the first AI workshop (W/S) with CCRC management team. That followed AI w/s with faculties, G-12 students, G-11 new entrants, BBS faculties, and BBS students. So far we have gone through six AI w/s.
The outcome of the w/s has been changed behavior of participants specifically in developing positive mindset. This has benefited the participants in raising their personality. While practicing AI people look them more appreciatively. There is increased cooperation among students and between students and faculties and management.
In the academic achievement, our G-11 students secured 4 out of 10 top positions in the country. (As a new college, this is the first examination CCRC got opportunity to undergo). There was the synergy of many ingredients in this miracle achievement and AI was one of the major ingredients. A survey conducted with students reveals a significant AI contribution.
We have found AI more than an approach. It is way of life for many of us. Owing to the importance of AI in many ways, we have regularized two AI w/s each year: A refresher course with those who have undergone AI w/s before and an introductory course with the new entrants. We do this in the beginning of the College Year.
Mac Odell was our visiting professor. Many of these w/s were conducted with his active participation. His mastery in AI, cooperative attitudes, and capability to bring movement among participants have played great role in making these w/s success. Chandi Chapagain, a Nepali, has been our another resource person in these w/s in addition to our own team at CCRC.
The consecutive workshops have developed a vision for CCRC to become an AI University within a decade.
CCRC is the first college in Nepal to introduce appreciative inquiry (AI) approach in its learning and teaching process. AI approach has helped students start think positively, act positively, and behave positively. We have found that AI always puts emphasis on one’s strengths, success, achievements, possibilities, and hopes. This approach has proved to become very helpful in learning process.
