Annotation: Sunday, April 23, 2006 Business as an agent of world benefit. Lofty ideal or growing corporate trend? The brain trust at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management is banking on increasingly heavy traffic at what one professor describes as "the intersection of business and society." Case is making corporate social responsibility an integral part of what it's teaching business school students, and the college is hosting a large conference this fall to show off its cutting-edge research on the subject. From Oct. 23-25, more than 400 corporate executives and business school leaders will converge on the University Circle campus to explore how business can become a leading force in eradicating poverty, enhancing the environment and promoting peace - all while making money. Another 3,000 people will take part through satellite or Internet links. David L. Cooperrider, a professor who chairs the college's Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit, sees societal gain as a natural outgrowth of businesses' global reach.
