Annotation: The Guyana Democratic Consolidation and Conflict Resolution Program (GDCCRP), a joint Government of Guyana/U.S. Government Project, wanted a new approach to change that (1) increased Guyanese citizen participation in policy making; (2) improved transparency and accountability in governance; and (3) reduced Guyana's vulnerability to ethno-political conflict. Achievement of these goals called for a combined capacity building and summit planning structure that generated energy, ideas, and concrete action plans focused on building positive ethnic relations and a shared national identify that celebrated differences and inspired a positive approach to community and nation building.
The combined AI Foundations Course/Summit brought together over 70 members of civil society organizations, community leaders, activists and interested organizations in the capital city of Georgetown, Guyana. The workshop gave participants an overview of AI theory, conceptual framework, and underlying research, as well as first-hand experience of the AI process in ways that reinforced new skills in reframing, understanding, and facilitating community dialogue. More than a mere training event, however, this gathering also served as a forum for exploring and creating compelling new plans, commitments, and partnerships for positive change.
