Annotation: In August/Sept 2005 Jen Hetzel Silbert spent three weeks traveling through the jungle and savanna of Guyana, South America. At the request of the Guyana Ministry of Amerindian Affairs (in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development), a series of AI training sessions and summits were conducted in two Amerindian villages: St. Cuthbert's and Santa Rosa Mission. The objective of the summit was to engage villagers (tribal council leaders, educators, health care providers, parents, youth) in a new kind of conversation that would inspire collaborative community development, peaceful co-existance, and self determination and empowerment. Outcomes of the summit included design plans aimed at increasing parental involvement in youth education, rural infrastructure development, leadership development, and improvements to local medical services. While the final reports are still under review by government agencies, a sample interview protocol and preparation document is provided as a community resource.
