Fourth quarter profits up at Roadways Express sites that have used AI Summits.

Annotation: Roadway Corporation has reported revenues for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2002 up 25.7% over the same period last year. Operating ratios improved significantly and employee engagement programs designed to create better load factor translated into an estimated $35 million dollars in improvements for the quarter. Of the top terminals and breakbulks leading the bottom-line improvements, all are sites that have held AI Summits. Summits held at Roadways over the last three years have focused on designing structures, creating faster throughput, and recasting the roles of supervisors and leadership at every level. Each involves from 200 to 400 people and provides intensives in open-book management and financial literacy, encouraging employees to think and act like owners. Roadways plans five more AI Summits in the next quarter, convening dockworkers, truck drivers, teamsters, senior leaders, customers, suppliers, partners to do strategic planning at terminals throughout the country.
