Marge Schiller , Joyce Lemke

The Canton Young Leaders Program
Canton, OH United States

Annotation: The Positive Change Core co-sponsored an event called FLOURISHING CANTON. The two-day gathering was designed and developed by a group of young leaders supported by Canton City Schools system adults and Positive Change Core (PCC) members.

“What separates an underprivileged kid from a privileged kid is opportunity”
Rosie Perez (actress and activist)

Background:

The Canton Young Leaders program has been operating for four years. Some of the Young Leaders have been involved with PCC since our first LEAP OF LEARNING at Case Western University in November 2003. Two Young Leaders came to London for a Leap of Learning held in England in December 2004. In August 2005 several Young Leaders piled into Joyce Lemke's mini van and drove to Georgian Court University in New Jersey to be part of a Leap of Learning held there. They, along with adult colleagues Carol Lichtenwalter and Susan Ross, gave presentations at that two-day conversation.

The Canton Young Leaders then decided to do their own Leap of Learning spring 2006 in Canton, Ohio. That conversation occurred on June 12 and 13.
